Entrance exams to top UK schools are becoming increasingly competitive. Doxa offers a unique programme to offer your child the best chance of success.
What are the 11+ and 13+?
The 11+ and 13+ are an entrance exam for top grammar and state-selective schools in England. Consisting of four main sections (Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, English and Maths), the test varies significantly between different schools and local authorities, so expert advice is essential for success.
How can Doxa help?
Doxa recognises the need for personalised, long-term support to maximise your child’s chances of success. Based on the Oxbridge tutorial model and Bloom’s Taxonomy, Doxa offers a range of qualified Mentors who know the best ways to learn.
With our proven track record of success in the 11+ and other entrance examinations, we can help you child to fulfil their potential.
Central to success in the 11+ is a guided training programme, expertly tailored to your child’s needs. Our Mentors have been selected specially for the quality of their academic and pastoral skills, and understand the challenges faced in preparing for the examination.
Experience is key; Doxa will provide you with the most up-to-date guidance on the entrance test, including school-specific details and advice on which schools to choose.
Who are our Mentors?
Doxa takes pride in the quality of its 11+ Mentors. From a range of backgrounds, all have a rigorous academic background and have been selected for the quality of their academic and pastoral support.
All of our Mentors have received specialist training for 11+ from an experienced 11+ Mentor, and all are DBS checked. In addition, our Oxbridge focus provides your child with the best way to learn: through discussion, problem solving and learner autonomy.
Finding the right Mentor for your child is of paramount importance. Therefore, we offer a free trial session for every potential student, to ensure that a strong Mentor-pupil relationship can form. From here, the Mentor will assess your child’s current level, assess the short- and long-term support required, and develop an action plan uniquely tailored to their needs.
In addition, Doxa recognises the importance of strong relationships between Mentors and parents. To this end, Mentors are encouraged to give regular, constructive feedback, and adapt to the whole family’s needs whenever possible.
Guided training programmes
At Doxa, we recognise that early preparation is essential to learning. Our range of packages, structured yet carefully tailored, cater for every child’s individual needs. Following an initial diagnostic assessment of your child’s strengths and weaknesses, a detailed preparatory programme will be designed, tailored to the schools of your choice.
Doxa’s recommended package is for 24 months. Pupils have the chance to build up their skills in the strongest way possible, by learning the best practices for absorbing and analysing information. Significant emphasis is initially placed on guided reading and English skills, with the gradual incorporation of Mathematics and Reasoning. Additionally, support is available for school selection.
Since the 11+ is likely to be your child’s first major exam, it is crucial that they feel as prepared as possible. Therefore, Doxa also offers intensive exam technique programmes, for 2 - 3 months before the exam. These provide students with the best possible advice on answering the exam questions, coping with time pressure, and revising effectively.
